Cobras in India!!!!!
We have spent the day exploring Chennai and have had a good time. We finally got off the ship at around 12:45pm and hired a rickshaw which ended up having two drivers. One would drive and the other would sit in the back of the rickshaw with AJ and I and then every once in a while he they would switch. This was for 200 rupees and there are 43.5 rupees to the dollar. We needed him to take us to the bank where they said that they didn’t have access to American accounts only Indian. So then we needed him to take us to the airport to get the tickets on Air Sahara which we had bid on and one on the internet. Then we told him on our way we wanted to go get something to eat so we went to about four or five different restaurants all of which were closed. When finally we saw a pizza hut that was open, but he insisted that we would eat Indian food. Finally he found one for us that was really cheap with tons of food. The most interesting thing was that there was the best service about four guys standing around catering to our every need. Finally we told him that we wanted to go to the market and he took us too many different very expensive shops. After finally becoming tired of seeing the same rugs, wraps, and junk we decided that we were tired of seeing shops. When he insisted that we would only look at three more. I am sure that they get paid at every one that we stop at. But the last one was really cool it had a guy next to the shop that had a cobra. He wanted something like 800 rupees to play the flut and let it dance. But we bargained him down to 100 rupees total with a picture of AJ with it and a picture of me with it.
Interestingly enough India has people every where. And after just a few moments here there is no doubt that there are over a billion people in the country. Chennai is one of the most conservative cities in all of India with no alchohol being sold anywhere besides the finest hotels. Also the rickshaws which are really cheap but they go extremely slow. And if there is one thing that you have to do while in India is bargain bargain bargain.
Tomorrow we are on Air Sahara flight Career s2) flight # 141. It leaves at 10:45 am and Armitish is going to Agraa tomorrow to the Taj to see his father who is there and take Jordan his roomate on the ship. But he said that he would have someone waiting there for us at the airport with a sign with our name on it to take us to the hotel.
More later, got to run. Miss you all!!!!
